Human Tragedy

11 08 2009

I think the greatest tragedy of human life is when we give up on ourselves before we have a chance for Greatness. You see, when we were young we all had goals. We all had dreams of being someone; maybe a Superhero, a Policeman, a Doctor, or even a Fireman. Then, as we grew older we changed. We let go of the dream of helping each other, or of achieving something unique. We resign our lives to paying the bills, figuring out how to keep food on the table, and just getting by.

I think it’s really important to have dreams. I often get caught up in my daily life, just doing the day to day stuff that is so monotonous and non-motivating. Sometimes it takes hitting a low point to realize I need to look up at the stars instead of at my feet on the ground.

Why is it paying the bills to take care of your family not “Greatness”? I think too many people get caught up in becoming somebody without stopping to realize that we are all inheriantly “somebody” already. Working a job you don’t neccessarily love but makes you available to be there for your wife and kids and provide for them a roof over their heads and 3 square meals a day is the very definition of Greatness in my book.

Kendall,

I think you bring up a great point: providing for your family is “greatness” I do not mean to undermine that. The point I was trying to make, which is a tragedy, as we go through our lives most of us give up on ourselves. We count ourselves out and don’t believe we can achieve anything; giving up on even trying and just settle into a life of mediocrity. I believe each of us has unlimited potential, most just let it go to waste.

Thanks for your comments!
